Another Step partners with people with developmental disabilities to create the lives they choose
Founded in 1992 for the purpose of providing an alternative to traditional services offered to people with developmental disabilities, the organization initially directed its efforts at developing and providing services to people living in the family home.  As the organization grew the focus has steadily expanded to encompass a wide range of community based supports.

Another Step has been a leader in providing Day Services without the use of a facility.  Over one hundred people living in Rockland and Westchester Counties receive day services 100% in their community.

In addition, the agency provides Community Habilitation and Respite Services as well as  a variety of residential opportunities which include rental subsidies for those seeking to reside in independent apartments in their communities and five (5) supervised residences (IRA’s).

Although the organization has substantially grown, both in size and range of supports offered, supporting people as individuals and respecting the choices they make continues to be the essence of what we do.

Today Another Step is respected as a creative organization that embraces the principles embodied in the concept of person centered supports. It is an organization that truly lives its mission and embraces its values.
Values

Consistent with the mission statement, the values of Another Step are directed by the people we serve.

Another Step asks and listens to what the people we serve genuinely have to say about their personal goals, and seeks to provide the supports needed to attain those goals.

Whenever possible, Another Step provides supports at the time and place they naturally occur, rather than in artificial settings.

Another Step promotes Positive Behavior Supports as the most effective means of assisting people who present challenging behaviors.
