COVID-19 Update:

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               March 11, 2020
Dear Another Step Staff & Families:

I wanted to take a moment to reassure you that we at Another Step are taking the spread of COVID-19 very seriously and are meeting daily to review the current direction and information from the NY State Department of Health, OPWDD and the Center for Disease Control. Our primary concern, of course, is the health and safety of every member of the Another Step community.

As per the guidance of OPWDD, we will be implementing the asking of three key screening questions to visitors to our offices and programs. We are also asking that these three guiding questions be used by staff and program participants when determining if they should work and/or receive services on any given day.

1) Have you traveled to a level 2 or 3 travel designated country within the last 14 days?

2) To your knowledge, have you had contact with any persons under investigation (PUIs) for COVID-19 within the last 14 days, OR with anyone known to COVID-19?

3) Do you have any symptoms of a respiratory infection (e.g., cough, sore throat, fever, or shortness of breath)?
Anyone answering yes to any of the three questions above should refrain from entering any of our offices, group homes, or services/programs until they are cleared in accordance to the Center for Disease Control’s protocols. A copy of the CDC’s risk assessment and public health management decision making is attached for your reference.

We believe by following these guiding questions and CDC protocols, as well as following the measures listed below, we can better help to keep the Another Step community safe and prevent the spread of the disease.

• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Be sure to thoroughly dry hands after washing as wet hands are more likely to carry virus and germs.
• Support the individuals we service with washing hands often and limit touching surfaces in the community that may carry germs.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Stay home when you are sick. Most notably with a fever until you receive clearance from your medical provider.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces throughout your work space many times throughout the course of a day.

This message is to assure you that we are carefully monitoring the situation, and to share with you the recommended precautions that we can all take to ensure the health of our Another Step community.
